 Olga Mayol

Education

  • University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras, 1989, B.Sc., Chemistry
  • University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras, 1994, M.Sc., Chemistry
  • University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, California, 1998, Ph.D., Chemistry
  • Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, Mainz, Germany, 1998-2001, Postdoctoral Fellow

Areas of Interest

  • Chemical, physical, and optical properties of atmospheric aerosols and the impact of these aerosols on climate, ecosystem, and the degradation of structures. Size-resolved chemical composition and sources of aerosols in tropical regions (biomass burning, marine, African dust, urban, biogenic). Carbonaceous aerosols, aerosols and their role in cloud condensation nuclei properties.

  • Dr. Mayol-Bracero’s field work involves aerosol sampling sites at the Fajardo lighthouse (Cabezas de San Juan, known as CPR station), El Yunque National Forest, UPR–Río Piedras, the Guánica dry forest, and the Brazilian Amazon.  The CPR station is part of the NASA aerosol robotic network (http://aeronet.gsfc.nasa.gov/).  One of the recent achievements of Mayol-Bracero is the conversion of the CPR station in one of the regional stations of the Global Atmosphere Watch program (http://www.empa.ch/gaw/).
